Caltrans holds public scoping session in Menlo Park

As if there's not enough civic activities this week, the California Department of Transportation and the county will host a scoping meeting Wednesday, Oct. 17.
Caltrans, in partnership with the county, East Palo Alto and Menlo Park, proposes to reconstruct the U.S. 101 and Willow Road interchange. The redesign aims to "address deficiencies impacting motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians by eliminating traffic weaves and providing adequate space for vehicles to stack on freeway off-ramps," according to the agency.
The scoping meeting starts at 6 p.m. in the Menlo Park Senior Center at 100 Terminal Ave.

Posted by Sue, a resident of the Menlo Park: Linfield Oaks neighborhood, on Oct 17, 2012 at 12:42 pm Great! It's about time! The exit ramp at Willow Road West is far too short! (I haven't taken Willow Road East, so I don't know about that one.) A person has to get in the exit lane and brake quite hard really quickly and at the same time try not to "get involved" with a car that is entering the freeway in the same lane we exiting need to get into to exit the freeway. It is horrible there. There is not enough room for both, and I cannot see how it could even have been constructed that way. Whoever "planned" that exit was not thinking. I don't understand how something as dangerous as this ever came into existence.

All the great and wonderful City planners, who just keep saying add density and jobs and more buildings to our cities just don't give a crap about the problems they create.
When is the public going to kick out State politicians like Steinberg with his 375 and 32 laws.
Of, course here, we have the great University, Stanford, which for quite some time has been worrying more about more shopping center space, and windfalls for an un-needed and grossly over built hospital to add more money to its coffers, than doing what it should be doing and that is focusing on education.

Posted by just wait, a resident of the Menlo Park: Linfield Oaks neighborhood, on Oct 19, 2012 at 2:42 pm The current horrible traffic will get worse as the economy improves and as approved projects are completed. Enormous ones that do little to improve traffic congestion and actually add to traffic volume include Facebook, Bohannon Towers, Stanford med center expansion. Each of these add workers but not housing, so they add commuters.
On top of all that would be new commuters because of the generous increase in office space for the El Camino plan. Housing is not required for any of these projects, and very little done to improve pedestrian and bike safety east/west across town.
We have gridlock now. Just wait!
