Courtney Calicdan and Nicole Yap helped the Menlo College women's volleyball finish the Cal Pac Conference season undefeated and gave the seniors something to remember Friday night as the Oaks downed visiting William Jessup, 25-12, 25-14, 25-21, in the regular season finale.

Calicdan and Yap combined for 21 kills and 20 digs to help send seniors Angie Larsen, Mika Mendoza, Camille Miller, Stephenie Monderine, and Stephanie Wertz off as winners.

Menlo (9-0, 15-6) advance into the Cal Pac Tournament semifinal next Friday against an opponent to be determined.

"I'm just excited as to how we have progressed throughout the season," Menlo coach Daniel Rasay said. "Like most teams we hit some patches where we needed to figure things out, and we did have some injuries. But we just kept working hard and persevered throughout the whole season, which makes you happy to go through that and still be undefeated."

After coming out of the gates rolling in a first set 25-13 victory, Menlo proved their resiliency over the next two games. Down 8-6 early in the second set, the Lady Oaks gobbled up nine straight points to take command of the game, eventually ending the set on a 19-6 run to jump up two sets to none.

The third game provided similarities to the second one, with Menlo once again compiling a huge to run to take control. The Oaks trailed 9-3 early, but took 13 of the next 16 points to race out to a 16-12 lead. Menlo would go on to capture a 22-16 advantage, before holding off a late Jessup charge that saw the Warriors roll off five straight points to snip the Lady Oaks lead to just one.


Two Calicdan kills, with a Jessup attack error sandwiched in between, and Menlo took the set 25-21, and the match 3-0.


Calicdan added a hitting percentage of .348 while Mika Mendoza added 21 digs.

Larsen led the match with 19 assists, while Monderine had four kills, a .500 hitting percentage, 15 assists, and 10 digs.

"It's a proud feeling," Monderine said. "It's a proud and exciting feeling. You feel like you really accomplished something and that all the hard work paid off."

Menlo enters the postseason with a 12-match winning streak.
