An alert neighbor helped prevent a burglary in unincorporated Redwood City on Friday after three teenagers were seen breaking into a home, according to the sheriff's office.

Deputies responded to a call reporting that three suspects were seen hopping a fence into a yard in the 500 block of Park Avenue, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office.

Arriving deputies surrounded the residence and reported hearing bumping and rustling noises from inside the house. Two screens had been torn off windows.

One of the suspects opened a door, saw a deputy and ran back inside, according to the Sheriff's Office. The deputy chased the suspect and apprehended him inside the house.

A second suspect jumped through a window and was quickly apprehended, and a third was arrested after he was found hiding in a backyard about a block away.

Women's jewelry was found in possession of the suspects, but investigators had not determined where it came from.

Ramon Contreras, 18, was booked into San Mateo County jail for residential burglary. Two 17-year-olds were booked into the San Mateo County Youth Services Center.
