The Menlo Park Fire Protection District probably hates an overcooked turkey more than anyone.
In the hopes of preventing any flaming birds this Thanksgiving, firefighters will demonstrate exactly what happens when you fail to be careful while cooking.
According to the National Fire Protection Association, three times as many cooking fires happen on Thanksgiving as on any other day of the year. In 2010, there were 1,370 fires on the holiday, a 219 percent increase over the daily average.
Visit the NFPA website for safety tips.
Go to the main fire station at 300 Middlefield Road at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, to witness the devastation wreaked by an overfilled deep fat turkey fryer, and other holiday fire hazards.
