Wednesday: Portola Valley hearings on housing

Bookmark and Share
Two public hearings, including one on a pending decision by the Portola Valley Town Council to sell two properties the town owns in the Blue Oaks neighborhood, are set for Wednesday, Dec. 12, in the Historic Schoolhouse at 765 Portola Road. The council meeting starts at 7:30 p.m.

The Planning Commission in November heard from the public as the commission reviewed and passed judgment on a lot line adjustment necessary for the sale to go forward. Members of the public tried to discuss a contingent matter -- using the proceeds from the Blue Oaks sale to purchase 900 Portola Road for a number of small houses affordable to people of moderate incomes -- but the commission considered the issues as separate. Also, consideration of the Portola Road property was not on the agenda.

The town planner, given the scope of public comments before the Planning Commission, recommended to the council that it exercise its option to review the commission's approval of the lot line adjustment and hold a public hearing open to a discussion of the purchase of the Portola Road property.

In a second and related action following the first public hearing, the council will hold a second public hearing on its decision to sell the Blue Oaks properties, and to hear protests, if any, over its decision.
