The Santa Clara County Coroner's office said they believe the pedestrian who was struck and killed by a southbound commuter train in Palo Alto Friday night was a man in his late 20s.

The accident involving a male pedestrian, who has still not been identified, was reported at East Meadow Drive at about 7:30 p.m., Caltrain spokeswoman Christine Dunn said.

About 200 passengers were on board southbound 284, and none were injured, Dunn said.

The accident caused considerable train delays for several hours.

Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority and SamTrans buses were called to transport passengers from the San Antonio, California Avenue and Palo Alto stations.

At about 9:20 p.m., Caltrain opened a single track, and some trains began rolling again.
