With a decisive 62-16 victory over visiting Eastside Prep on Tuesday, the Menlo School boys' basketball team clinched at least a share of the West Bay Athletic League title Tuesday.

The Knights hold a 12-1 mark (16-7 overall) with a game remaining. A win Friday against visiting Crystal Springs (6:30 p.m.) will give Menlo its first WBAL title since 2009. Sacred Heart Prep is second at 11-2 following a win over Harker (10-3).

Menlo junior Jack Heneghan made all 10 of his field-goal attempts for 20 points as the team shot 84 percent from the field and 60 percent from three-point range as the Knights won their 12th straight. Senior Nick Keller was "very active on defense" and sank a pair of three-pointers. Juniors Bobby Roth and Ryan Young also had strong performances for the Knights.

Menlo led 38-5 at halftime. Coach Delandro Leday liked that a lot of the players got a healthy share of minutes though there were areas in which they know they have to clean up.

"We had seven turnovers in the first half. We should have had seven turnovers for the game, " he said. "Things like that . . . we'll have to get better, but we have a lot of growing room. That's the good part. We're not maxed out."

In San Jose, Ricky Galliani poured in 24 points as Sacred Heart Prep extended the WBAL race to the final game of the regular season with a 52-51 win over host Harker.

While the loss knocked the Eagles (10-3, 16-7) out of the title race, the win kept the Gators (11-2, 15-8) mathematically alive for the league title heading into Friday's regular-season finale against visiting Pinewood at 6:30 p.m.

In the SCVAL El Camino Division, Chris Russell scored 19 points and Patrick Skelly tallied 17 but Gunn still dropped a 79-67 decision to host Wilcox.

The Titans (2-9, 5-17) held a 21-17 first-quarter lead and still were leading at halftime, 39-35, before the Chargers pulled away with a 24-10 advantage in the third period to hand Gunn its sixth loss in the past seven games. Max Girod added 13 points and Zach Wang had 11 for the Titans.

In the PAL South Division, host Menlo-Atherton finished the regular season with a 50-35 victory over Mills. The Bears (7-5, 11-13) got 10 points from Jamar Gaddis as they pulled into a three-way tie for third place with Mills and Sequoia. Burlingame won the title at 12-0 with Aragon second at 10-2.

Girls' basketball
Castilleja saw its season come to an end following a 60-44 loss to Notre Dame-San Jose in the second round of the WBAL playoffs on Tuesday at Mercy-San Francisco. The Gators finished 4-21, thus missing out on the Central Coast Section playoffs after failing to reach .500 in either preseason or league play.

Sophomore Yasmeen Afifi led the Gators with a career-high 24 points, 16 rebounds and four blocks. Lauren Rantz capped her career with five blocks and four assists while ranking third all-time in blocks (268) and fifth in rebounds (712). Senior Olivia Nicholls scored her 700th career point while finishing No. 2 on the school's all-time list for three-pointers made (71). Sophomore Paige Vermeer contributed 13 points and three steals.

In the PAL South Division, Menlo-Atherton finished its regular season with a 58-36 loss to host Mills. The Bears (7-5, 11-13) got 14 points from Emma Heath while dropping their third straight game heading into the PAL playoffs.

Girls' soccer
Priory wrapped up second place in the WBAL Foothill Division following a 3-1 victory over two-time defending champion Menlo School on Tuesday in Portola Valley.

The Panthers won their final four matches and had a six-match unbeaten streak to finish 6-2-4 in league (7-4-6 overall) while relegating Sacred Heart Prep (5-2-5) to third place.

The Knights, after clinching the division crown with four matches to play, finished up 2-1-1 and saw its streak of 21 straight WBAL victories end.

Priory took the lead on a goal by senior Mariana Galvan from 30 yards out off an assist from Caitlin Teoman 25 minutes into the match. Galvan scored her second goal 10 minutes into the second half from 12 yards out off another Teoman assist.

Menlo's goal was scored by Lindsay Karle, who volleyed in a long cross from Chandler Wickers from five yards out at the 18-minute mark of the second half. Priory struck again when Erin Simpson found Teoman on a cross that was headed in at the 62nd minute.

While Priory next will compete in the Central Coast Section Division III playoffs, the Panthers will do so without the services of Galvan. She'll be training with Mexico's Under-20 National Team.

In the PAL Bay Division, Menlo-Atherton (7-4-2, 9-6-4) remained tied for third place with Burlingame with one match remaining in the regular season against first-place Woodside (12-0-1) on Thursday on the Bears' field at 4 p.m.
