Deputies pull young girls from burning home
|
San Mateo County sheriff's deputies rescued two young girls from a smoke-filled house in Moss Beach on Monday night.
At about 11 p.m., a county dispatcher received a report of fire at a home in the 500 block of Lancaster Street. Deputies were first to arrive on scene and were immediately told by the homeowner that his two young daughters were still inside.
The deputies entered the home and retrieved the sleeping girls from an upstairs bedroom, according to the Sheriff's Office. A pet dog was also rescued from the home.
Once all the occupants were safely evacuated, the fire, which appeared to have started in the garage, was quickly extinguished, sheriff's officials said. The fire was contained to the garage, though the entire residence was damaged by smoke, sheriff's investigators said.
The deputies and residents of the home were taken to hospitals to be treated for smoke inhalation.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
