Tonight: Musical performance in Menlo Park urges children away from violence
|
Submitted by Karl Sonkin of Kaiser Permanente Northern California.
Kaiser Permanent's Educational Theatre will stage the musical, "Peace Signs," at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, at Willow Oaks School, 620 Willow Road in Menlo Park, a few blocks west of U.S. 101.
The performance for youngsters and their parents uses comedy, drama, music, and dance to promote peaceful resolution to school and neighborhood conflicts.
Assemblyman Rich Gordon, Menlo Park Councilwoman Kirsten Keith, and East Palo Alto Councilwoman Laura Martinez have been invited.
On Wednesday, the clinically trained performer-educators from Kaiser's Educational Theatre were in Willow Oaks classrooms talking about conflict resolution, anti-bullying strategies, name-calling prevention, and domestic violence.
For more than 25 years, Kaiser Permanente has been using musical theater to empower and inspire children through stories and modeling of positive behavior. Nationwide, more than 15 million youngsters have attended an Educational Theater performance.
