Today: Menlo Park book sale; Friends group replaces annual book fair with quarterly events

Bookmark and Share
The Friends of the Menlo Park library will hold its first book sale of the year from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 2, in the Oak and Elm rooms of the Arrillaga Recreation Center, across from the library parking lot at 700 Alma St. in the Menlo Park Civic Center.

The Menlo Park Friends group is replacing its annual book fair with quarterly book sales, two of which will be two-day events to be held later this year in the recreation center, said Tim Goode of the Friends.

At the March 2 event, gently used books, most priced at $1, and mass market pocketbooks, priced at 50 cents, will be for sale. There will be, among others, a wide selection of biography, history, literature, mystery, science fiction, religion, philosophy, children's and young adult books.

The Menlo Park Friends group conducted the first annual book fair on the Peninsula in 1952, which became the model for book fairs, Mr. Goode said.

Proceeds from the sales go to the Library for Storytelling, special programs for teens, adult literacy (Project Read), and special library needs, Mr. Goode said.
