One dead, one injured in East Palo Alto shooting

Bookmark and Share
Police are investigating a shooting in East Palo Alto that left a 22-year-old man dead and a boy injured on Friday evening, March 1.

Shortly after 6 p.m. on Friday officers went to a residence in the 500 block of Runnymede Avenue, near University Avenue, on a report of a medical emergency.

Simultaneously, officers were advised of multiple "Shotspotter" activations at that location, police said.

Officers arrived at the scene to find two victims lying in the backyard of a residence.

Gerardo Osegeura, a 22-year-old East Palo Alto man, was found suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body, police said. When paramedics arrived at the residence, they attempted to treat
Osegeura, but he succumbed to his injuries and he was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The second gunshot victim, a juvenile male, was transported to a hospital for his injuries, according to police.

Based on the preliminary police investigation, Osegeura was standing in the backyard talking with someone when a black-colored vehicle with tinted windows pulled up at a nearby residence.

The male driver of the vehicle and Osegeura conversed before numerous shots were fired, police said.

Police said the suspect vehicle and its occupants fled the area before officers arrived.

Anyone who may have witnessed the shooting or anyone who has information regarding the suspect or suspect vehicle is encouraged to contact the East Palo Alto Police Department at 650-798-5954.

Anonymous messages may be left on voicemail or via text message from a cell phone to 650-409-6792 or emailed to epa@tipnow.org.
