Further details about the Stanford University/Rosewood Hotel, being built on Sand Hill Road near Interstate 280 in Menlo Park, were unveiled Thursday during a press event at the hotel site. Standard rooms will run $400 to $450 a night, and will be about 550 square feet, said John Scott, president of Rosewood Hotels and Resorts. The 121-room hotel, a 15,000-square-foot health spa, and a restaurant are all expected to open in February 2009, he said.

Posted by Zerious Zitizen, a resident of the Menlo Park: Park Forest neighborhood, on Nov 16, 2007 at 3:16 pm $400 to $450 a night? That’s outrageous. Why are there no BMR rooms? Why are there no “affordable” rooms? Why are there no government subsidized rooms? Why is this hotel not next to a Caltrain/high speed rail station to reduce car use (TOH: transit oriented hotel)? I certainly hope that they don’t have enough parking. Are they going to provide soccer fields on their roof, or not? If you want the answers to these pertinent questions, honk your horn as you drive by on Sand Hill Road.

This project is tastefully done,provides jobs to hundreds of construction workers, and hundreds of ongoing jobs.

I've watched and waited for years for a hotel to be built in this location. However, I do have to admit, $400-$450/night seems a bit excessive. This is not San Francisco. Are these prices comparable to the Palo Alto Sheraton and the Westin? I realize it will mostly cater to the business traveler's who are able to expense the costs. Curious, any news on if they will offer discounted rates for local residents? It's would be great to have a local hotel for family and friends to stay when they visit, not to mention a treat to get away for a night.

If one doesn't want to pay that much for a night then don't stay there... If there are not enough people to pay that amount for a hotel room then they will be foreced to lower prices or go out of buisness. I am tired of vocal bloggers feeling as if they have a "right" to help determine what others do with their property. If you are not paying for it... then who cares what you think. Sorry, thats just a reality. If you want to build a hotel full of BMR's do it with your own money. I thought we lived in America?

Posted by Zoom-Zoom, a resident of the Menlo Park: Sharon Heights neighborhood, on Nov 26, 2007 at 11:15 am I'm amused that with all the builder's blather about the difficult terrain of the site, no one bothered to mention its biggest constraint -- it's almost entirely surrounded by freeway and freeway on-ramps.

Watch for the specials at $199. a nite right after Conde Nast and Trip Advisor complain about the deafening freeway noise. Where's the volume control on this darn TV remote?
