Roberts market in Portola Valley: Commission postpones action

Bookmark and Share
The Portola Valley Planning Commission on Wednesday night postponed action until Dec. 13 on a conditional use permit for the new Roberts market going in where John's Valley Foods used to be, near the corner of Portola and Alpine roads.

At the commission meeting, three neighbors on Nathhorst Street complained about possible noise from the store. Commission members commiserated with them but reminded them that the grocery store was there before they were.

The commission may require early morning employees to park on the side or out front if neighbors are being wakened by car doors.

Otherwise, the commission appears to be going with the plan more or less as is.

If the permit is issued, the store would likely open in the spring, Planning Manager Leslie Lambert said.

I love to read about whiny nuevo riche people complain that a slamming car door might disturb their royal sleep. "Those darn hourly employee clerks, can't they just serve us and shut up? I mean WE live in Portola Valley, we're better than they are."

quit complaining that a world class grocery is opening up within walking distance, at least not the maids won't have to drive ALL the way to Ladera.

I can't wait for Roberts to open. It has been a real inconvenience to not have a grocery store in PV. We should be making it easy for the Roberts family to set up shop in PV!
