Two mountain lion sightings were reported in San Mateo County Wednesday afternoon -- one near Edgewood County Park and the other in Half Moon Bay, according to authorities.

The most recent sighting was in the area of the 2600 block of Edgewood Road, near the county park, around 1 p.m., just half an hour after a mountain lion was spotted near Coastside Trail in Half Moon Bay, authorities said.

The mountain lion near Edgewood County Park was described as having a long tail and was seen walking on a trail in the area.

California Department of Fish and Game officials urge anyone confronted by a mountain lion to face the animal, make noise and try to appear larger. They also advise throwing objects at the animal and fighting back in the event of an attack.

Mountain lions are most active at dawn, dusk and at night. However, Fish and Game officials point out that the animals are "solitary and elusive" creatures and tend to avoid humans.
