Creek funding OK'd by House subcommittee
|
A House of Representatives subcommittee has approved nearly $10 million in funding for projects in the 14th Congressional District, which includes Menlo Park, Atherton, Woodside and Portola Valley.
Before the legislation is enacted, it must be approved by the House and Senate, and be signed by the president.
Rep. Anna Eshoo (D-Menlo Park) announced the subcommittee's decision to fund four projects through the Energy and Water Development Appropriations Act for the 2010 fiscal year. According to Ms. Eshoo, $300,000 will be allocated for a study of flood protection measures for San Francisquito Creek, which runs through East Palo Alto, Palo Alto and Menlo Park.
"As the budget crisis in California worsens, it's essential that projects critical to protecting our major routes of transportation, water systems, and homes not be neglected," Ms. Eshoo said in a June 26 press release.
In addition to the San Francisquito Creek project, here are the other projects for which funding has been approved:
• Dredging of a navigation channel in the port of Redwood City: $6.745 million.
• Study of a project to provide flood protection for Silicon Valley: $2.8 million.
• Bay Area regional water recycling program: $100,000.
