Just eight months after joining the Las Lomitas Elementary School District as superintendent, Shirley Martin has announced this week that she's leaving in June to return to the Millbrae School District, to become the new superintendent there.

Ms. Martin spent six years in the Millbrae district before coming to Las Lomitas, part of a 36-year career in education that, in California, has included positions as middle school teacher, learning coordinator, acting principal and principal, she said.

She has a doctorate in institutional management from Pepperdine University; a master's degree in education with an administrative credential from California State University, Fullerton; and a bachelor's degree in education from the Oregon College of Education. She was an adjunct professor with La Jolla-based National University.

At Millbrae, Ms. Martin will replace Karen Philip, who was named deputy superintendent for San Mateo County Office of Education in January.

The Millbrae district is bigger. It has four elementary schools and one middle school versus one of each in the Las Lomitas district.
