Menlo's Bekowies is Cal Pac Player of the Year
Three Lady Oaks are named to the first team; six honored overall

Share
Menlo College middle blocker Deborah Bekowies was named California Pacific Conference Player of the Year for the second consecutive season as the all-conference team was announced Wednesday.

Bekowies was joined on the first team by seniors Sarah Poole and Stephanie Williamson, each of whom earned the same honors a year ago.

Junior libero Mia Ortiz was named second team, while senior outside hitters Kelsey Bailey and Katie Pendley each earned honorable mention.

Menlo enjoyed its second consecutive undefeated Cal Pac campaign when it wrapped up its regular season last week with a pair of victories to move to 12-0 and earn the top seed in the Cal Pac Tournament, which gives the Oaks a bye into the championship game it hosts at 7 p.m. on Saturday.

Menlo has won 26 consecutive Cal Pac matches dating through last season and 10 straight matches overall this season. The winner of Saturday's conference title match earns an automatic berth in the 36-team NAIA National Championship.

Pendley was named California Pacific Conference Volleyball Player of the Week after helping Menlo College to a pair of wins that capped a 12-0 conference season last week.

Pendley led the Oaks with 18 kills - a personal best - in a four-set home victory over William Jessup that clinched the Cal Pac regular season title.

Women's wrestling
Reigning national champion Katherine Fulp-Allen and newcomer Sherylyn Sabado each won their respective weight classes in the Mike Clock Open at Pacific University on Sunday.

Fulp-Allen dominated on short rest at 51 kg, defeating 2009 Junior World Champion Victoria Anthony of Simon Fraser just two days after finishing third at the Hargobind International Tournament in Surrey, British Columbia.

Sabado was unstoppable at 48 kg, pinning Yakima Valley's Tamima Jones in the semifinals prior to dispatching Miochiko Ariki of Simon Fraser in the final.

Also placing for the Oaks were Brittany Caoile (2nd, 82 kg), Tehani Ibarra (3rd, 63 kg), Rachael Skroch (4th, 59 kg), Kayla Garza (4th, 63 kg), and Keaton Long (4th, 67 kg).

Men's basketball
Senior guard Tim Kees earned Cal Pac Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week honors for his performance in Menlo College's loss at NCAA Division I Sacramento State last week.

Kees scored 21 points in 29 minutes of action as the Oaks fell 63-45 to the Hornets in an exhibition game.
