The public is invited to a Sunday, Nov. 22, celebration of the 90th birthday of Bill Lane, Portola Valley's first mayor, the former publisher of Sunset Magazine, and a town benefactor many times over.

The event is set to begin at 2 p.m. in the community hall at Town Center at 765 Portola Road. Mayor Ann Wengert is expected to introduce Mr. Lane around 3 p.m., after which the honoree is expected to say a few words.

Mr. Lane's 90th birthday was on Nov. 7.
