County offers free H1N1 flu shots

Bookmark and Share
At long last, there are enough swine flu shots for all. The San Mateo County Health System will hold free H1N1 walk-in flu vaccination clinics starting Jan. 12. The H1N1, or swine flu, vaccinations are available to county residents over the age of six months.

Locally, injection clinics will be held on Saturday, Jan. 16, in Redwood City from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Room 101 at the San Mateo County Government Center, at the corner of Marshall and Hamilton streets, and in East Palo Alto from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 1425 Bay Road.

Vaccinations are recommended for people in high-risk groups, including pregnant women, children and young adults under age 24, and people with chronic medical conditions.

This fall, county officials were frustrated by delays and smaller-than-expected shipments of vaccines, but currently there are enough doses so that there are no restrictions on who can get the flu shots.

At least a dozen free flu clinics will be held in January, county officials said. For more information, and a complete listing of clinic dates and times, go to www.smhealth.org/flu.
