Inglewood gang member arrested, suspected of raping runaway Menlo Park girl

Bookmark and Share
An Inglewood gang member has been arrested on suspicion of raping a runaway girl from Menlo Park and holding her against her will, according to an article posted on the Los Angeles Times' Web site.

Kevin Escobar, 20, was arrested Wednesday night by Los Angeles police detectives, the Times reported. He befriended the girl and brought her to Venice Beach, plying her with drugs and alcohol, the Times quotes LAPD Detective Kurt Wachter as saying.

The detective said the 14-year-old girl ran away from her Menlo Park home on Jan. 7, and was reunited with her family Jan. 30 after going to the Culver City police department.

Police did not identify the girl.

Menlo Park police said they could not comment on the investigation.

First The Almanac is "persuaded" to stop putting in the names of people who have been arreseted for DUIs, not convicted, and now they are printing names of possible underage victims of rape. Both positions are potentially illegal at worst and ethically challenged at best.

I agree, the poor girl is probably going through enough as it is. The Almanac should be taking the high road, you don't have to always include the details, especially in a situation like this.

NOTE FROM EDITOR: The Almanac has removed the name of a juvenile from this story and is closing the thread to comments to avoid discussion of any connection with the juvenile.
