Posted by Janine O'Neill, a resident of the Portola Valley: Westridge neighborhood, on Feb 18, 2010 at 10:16 am Why not show support for the Spring Down facility (a valued PV facility by MANY MANY people!) and donate it back to them? Does the PV City Council not understand that the Spring Down Facility provides so much more than just a place to ride horses?...little girls become self confident ladies while following the discipline of English riding. It also teaches valuable social skills and respect for others, as well as animals. The girls form friendships, associations and bonds with other girls that share the common interest. These relationships can endure things like peer pressure, which can enhance making good choices for these girls as they grow into being young adults. I don't think the city/town of Portola Valley gives Spring Down half the credit it deserves nor near enough support. I say, why not take the idea from Los Altos Hills and donate the space for a public arena? (Purissima Rd - Town Riding Areana). This could only enhance the equestrian community in Portola Valley (and just how many homeowners and population alike have or keep horses in PV????) and possibly increase community involvement for PV. Would be nice to see a City Council support the equestrian community like Los Altos Hills has.
