The Palo Alto Oaks and Menlo Park Legends continue to roll over the competition in their respective summer baseball leagues, with the two local teams combining for a 13-1 record after weekend sweeps.

The Oaks (6-0) took a doubleheader from the visiting San Jose Haystacks on Sunday at Palo Alto's Baylands Athletic Center, 9-1 and 13-2, while the Legends (7-1) swept the visiting California Glory in three games after being the Monterey Baysox on Friday, 7-3, at Monterey Peninsula College.

Palo Alto got two solid pitching efforts from Matt Campbell and Grant Norlander. Campbell pitched seven innings in the first game and struck out 13 batters. He did give up his first run of the season, but it was un-earned. Norlander was making his debut for the Oaks after a stellar season at Canada College. All he did was strike out 11 Haystackers in five innings. Norlander gave up one earned run in his five innings.

Norlander will head to Temple University to continue his college career at the end of the summer.

Offensively for the Oaks, Allan Stiles got things going in the first inning of the first game by leading off with a single. After a walk by Tyler Finley, Vince Gutierrez launched a triple to the gap in right-center field to plate both runners. Shane Parsons brought home Gutierrez with a ground out.

In the second, Mike Reiling led off with a single and Stiles followed with his second single to advance Reiling to third. Reiling scored when Stiles attempted to steal second and was thrown out. In the fifth, the Oaks got things going when Tyler Christian led off with a towering home run to left field. After a fly out, Nick Schulz singled and Will Klein tripled to the right-center gap. Klein scored on Stiles' third single of the game. Both Christian and Schulz had RBI singles in the sixth to complete the scoring for the Oaks. Stiles ended up with four hits.

In the second game, Evan Warner, Stiles, Parsons, Grant Nelson, Schulz, and Reiling all had two hits while Bryan Beres collected three to pace the Oaks. Schulz knocked in three runs with a double and sacrifice fly to support Norlander's solid pitching.

Palo Alto will return to action on Sunday with a doubleheader against the El Cerrito A's at Baylands, starting at 11:30 a.m.

Menlo Park will be back in action on Tuesday as the Legends host the NorCal Longhorns at Menlo-Atherton High at 5 p.m. The teams will meet again on Thursday, this time at Canada College at 5 p.m. Menlo Park will host MVP Dynasty on Saturday at M-A at 2 p.m.

American Legion
Palo Alto's Freddy Avis struck out nine in five innings and teammate Steve Gosselin finished up with four innings of no-hit relief to spark the Redwood City Post 105 Blues to a 14-3 victory over host San Bruno on Sunday.

Tomas O'Donnell from Sacred Heart Prep had his second straight three-hit game for Redwood City, which finished with 14 hits. Travis Burdette launched a two-run homer for the Blue while teammate Kevin Wilkins (SHP) had a double, triple and drove in two runs.

Babe Ruth
In2Change won the Palo Alto Babe Ruth 13U Prep League Tournament championship on Saturday with a 6-0 victory over Tesla at Baylands Athletic Center.

In2Change advanced undefeated through the four-team postseason tourney, which included a decisive second-round win over Tesla, which bounced back in the consolation bracket to earn a berth in the title game. Tesla needed to beat In2Change twice on Saturday to claim the crown.

In2Change scored the only run it needed in the bottom of the first when Ryan McIntosh singled, stole second, advanced to third on a groundout and scored on a single by Danny Erlich. The favorites scored three more times in the third when Jackson Williams reached base on an error, stole second and scored on a single by McIntosh. Jack Katman followed with a booming triple to center to drive in McIntosh, and then scored one bater later on a groundout by Erlich.

The final two runs came in the fifth when Williams was hit by a pitch, McIntosh singled and Erlich brought home both with a double. Erlich finished with four RBI and was even better on the mound as he tossed a complete-game no-hitter.

Little League
Mike's Cafe of Menlo-Atherton Little League and Partners of Alpine/West Menlo will meet in the title game of the Menlo Park City Championships on Friday at Burgess Park at 6 p.m. This will be a rematch of last season's title showdown.

Partners advanced by beating Morey's, 3-2, in the Alpine/West Menlo championship game Saturday morning at Ford Field. Andrew Cox hit a homer for Partners while Kodiak Conrad went 5 2/3 innings to get the pitching win. Partners closed out the game by throwing out the tying run at the plate to end the contest.
