|
By Hannah Totte
The Horse Park in Woodside is hosting the U.S. Pony Club's Championships West competition through Sunday (Aug. 15). Some 250 Pony Club members are competing.
Local riders won the "Games" competition, a speed and agility event, on Tuesday (Aug. 10). Team members are Charlie Campbell, 12, and Megan Luff, 12, of Menlo Park; Anna Waldern, 12, of Los Altos Hills; and Samara Phillips of Portola Valley.
The team is now eligible to compete with the top four junior "Games" teams in the country at the 2011 Prince Philip Cup in Kentucky.
Claire Kendall, 11, and Anna Waldern, 12, also came in first during the "Quiz" competition Aug. 9 for testing well on various aspects of horse care, including horse nutrition, conformation, and veterinary aid.
Pony Club members are competing in such events as show jumping, dressage, games, quiz, polocrosse, and the tetrathlon, a four-part sport made up of a cross-country run, a 200-meter swim, an air pistol shooting event, and a stadium jumping course event.
National tetrathlon teams from the United Kingdom, Canada, Ireland and Australia are among those competing.
Pony Club members range in age from 4 to 25.
