The public is invited to an "education update" to be held by State Sen. Joe Simitian, D-Palo Alto, this Saturday (Feb. 5) at Palo Alto Unified School District headquarters.
Simitian, a former Palo Alto school board member and current member of the Senate Education Committee, said he will offer an "in-depth update" on Gov. Jerry Brown's proposed budget and on K-12 policy proposals pending in Sacramento.
He will also discuss how the new "kindergarten readiness" law will be implemented before opening the floor to questions and comments.
"These education updates give me an opportunity to stay in touch with local education leaders, parents and advocates," Simitian said. "Knowing what they're thinking helps me better serve our local schools and kids."
The meeting will be from 10 a.m. to noon at Palo Alto school district headquarters, 25 Churchill Ave.
Attendees are asked to RSVP online or by calling 650-688-6384, 408-277-9460 or 831-425-0401.

Posted by Alice H. Hansen, a resident of another community, on Feb 6, 2011 at 8:33 pm Senator Simitian seems to realize that education is important.
We hope that other California legislators will realize that funding for education should come before high speed rail. That is being ignored.
Many of us will not vote for Governor Brown's tax extension until he takes a look at what high speed rail will do to our schools. (like going through school campusses, etc.)
