Portola Valley: Deer carcass discovered near school; mountain lion suspected

The carcass of a deer that may have been killed by a mountain lion was found near a Portola Valley school Wednesday morning (March 9), San Mateo County emergency officials said.
The carcass was discovered at about 7:30 a.m. in the 200 block of Portola Road, near the Woodside Priory School.
Emergency officials said there were tracks nearby that may have been left by a mountain lion.
There have been a number of mountain lion sightings in the Woodside and Portola Valley areas in the past few weeks, but wildlife officials say the cats generally avoid confrontations with humans.
However, county officials advise residents to keep an eye on small children and avoid jogging or hiking at dawn, dusk, and at night when mountain lions tend to roam around.
In the event of a mountain lion encounter, wildlife officials advise residents to face the animal, make noise and try to appear as large as possible.

Lions are killing the multitude of deer in Portola Valley and Woodside there is no need to be concerned. It is the large number of deer in the area that are bring these lions closer to our neighborhoods. With no hunting of Bambi, the deer have become over populated and these Mt. Lions are culling the sick and the weak.
If the attitude of the previous commenter was taken seriously we would have to have a hunting season on humans. Man is the top predator and is to be feared more than a cat that just wants to be left alone.
