Portola Valley cancels Saturday's town picnic

Bookmark and Share
Due to forecasts of stormy weather on Saturday, June 4, the town of Portola Valley has decided to cancel its town picnic scheduled for that day.

The event couldn't be rescheduled this summer because other events are booked at the Town Center for the next three weeks, and then it's the Fourth of July, and people are gone for the summer, said Town Manager Angela Howard.

The decision was made by the town's Community Events Committee "after keeping a close eye on the forecast and no small amount of discussion," according to the town's website. "We'll see you all in 2012!"

The picnic is a community event involving many activities, including live music, a barbecue lunch served by the Boy Scouts, a cake walk sponsored by the Girl Scouts, a martial arts demonstration, and the traditional Zot's to Tots race.

That race has been canceled, too, but will be rescheduled for October when the Portola Valley School District celebrates its 150 anniversary, Ms. Howard said.

The Zots to Tots Race will be rescheduled for the weekend of October 1st/2nd and incorporated into the celebrations for the Portola Valley School District's Sesquicentennial (150th anniversary).
