Ann Wengert, whose term on the Portola Valley Town Council expires in November, said she plans to run for re-election and will take out filing papers the day after she returns from a cross-country bicycle trip.

"I am very enthusiastic about continuing to serve on the Council and tackling the challenges facing our community," Ms. Wengert said in an email.

There are two seats up in the November election. If there are more than two candidates, it would be Ms. Wengert's first election. The council appointed her in 2007 because she and incumbent Steve Toben had no one running against them.

Mr. Toben said recently he had no plans to run again after two terms on the council.

Candidates have until 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17, to file papers, which are available in Portola Valley Town Hall at Town Center, 765 Portola Road. Town Hall is open weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 3 to 5 p.m.

It is amazing to me that unlike other san mateo county cities that have hotly contested races, Portola Valley has very few contested races. Anne never had to campaign in 2007. There weren't any other people interested in the race.

What wrong with PV? You need new blood on your council. Why aren't people in Portola valley running for office?
