Tonight: Woodside meets on Mounted Patrol

Bookmark and Share
Tonight, the Woodside Town Council will revisit and possibly resolve a decade long unanswered question for the members and neighbors of the Mounted Patrol of San Mateo County on their Kings Mountain Road property: What activities are and are not permitted on their 23-acre grounds?

The council meets at 7:30 p.m. in Independence Hall at the corner of Woodside and Whiskey Hill roads.

The Mounted Patrol's equestrians are, by turns, a social club, a group of advocates for Western equestrian activities, and a search-and-rescue team, and are ready when people on horses are needed to help out in a local emergency, including finding someone lost in the vast woods in and around Woodside.

But they also have rodeos and dances and blood drives and charitable fundraisers and cowboy poetry readings, some of which were never itemized as permitted in the group's conditional use permit but grandfathered in because the club existed before certain restricting regulations came along.

The club has also made many efforts of good will over the years to address complaints of residential neighbors, including redirecting loudspeakers away from neighbors' homes, installing sprinklers to keep dust down during arena events, and turning down amplified music.

The council will re-address this issue tonight.

Horses and the horse people were here before anyone! Why should a few be allowed to spoil for all? This association and their supporters are the glue that keeps this community together!

Anyone who does not like the noise from the Mounted Patrol grounds

or from outdoor parties & school functions should weigh

the benefits of living here in Woodside before taking away some of the characteristics of our town. It's never been a secret that we

have ongoing events that celebrate our horse community with pride Our Mounted Patrol, their events and those beautiful grounds should be treasured and passed down to future generations.
