Stewart Willard Mitchell
Nov. 18, 1924-July 21, 2014
Lincoln, California

Stewart passed away after a long illness at his home on Monday. He touched so many lives in his 89 years. We will miss him terribly, but we are grateful that he is now rejoicing in His presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Stewart was born in San Francisco. His earliest years were spent in San Bruno, after which his family moved to Belmont. He graduated from Sequoia High School. After a brief stint at The College of San Mateo, he served in the Army in World War II with the 163rd Infantry Regiment that went overseas with the 41st Infantry Division. He was involved in several beachhead landings throughout the Pacific and received an honorable discharge on December 28, 1945. Stewart returned home and married his high school sweetheart, Jean Arnold, in 1946. He graduated from Dental School at UCSF and began a long and successful career as a dentist in Palo Alto.

Stewart was a long time resident of Los Altos and a charter member of the Palo Alto Hills Golf and Country Club, Kiwanis, and an avid golfer, hunter and fisherman. After Jean died in 1990, he married Mary Bailey in 1996, and they settled in Lincoln for the past 12 years.

Stewart is survived by his loving wife, Mary; two sons, Mike (Heidi) of Newport Beach and Mark (Lynn) of San Carlos. Stewart was a loving and devoted grandfather to James Mitchell (Amber), Jared Mitchell (Alana), Anne-Marie Sanford (Michael), Chad Mitchell (Danielle), Kimberly Bahou (Asad) and Matthew Mitchell. He is also the great-grandfather of Malachi, Peyton, Ezekiel and Elliot. He will be missed by all of us.

Dr. Mitchell was our family dentist in Palo Alto for nearly 20 years, taking care of my folks and all three of us boys. He was a wonderful man with a quick wit and always a big smile. A great memory of my youth in Palo Alto...and a good man.
Memorial service
Friends and family are invited to a memorial celebration of his life at 3 p.m. on Thursday, July 31, at Central Peninsula Church, 1005 Shell Blvd. in Foster City, California.
