The centerpiece of the event will be a live auction of one-of-a-kind swings, ranging from artistic porch gliders to innovative playground sets.
"Several local artists, architects and contractors have been working to create unique swings for the Swing in the Park auction," said Denise Kupperman of the Atherton Dames. "Generous benefactors include kinetic artist Ben Trautman, glass artist Nikolas Weinstein, and fabulous furniture-maker Roger Heitzman."
Also set for the auction block is a Lexus vehicle, and there will be a silent auction of gift baskets and gift certificates from local restaurants and businesses.
It's one of the park's largest fundraising events and will feature a catered meal by Absolute B-B-Q, said Ms. Kupperman. The event lasts from 2 p.m. to dusk and is sponsored by the Atherton Dames and the Holbrook-Palmer Park Foundation.
Proceeds from the family-friendly festivities will go toward future improvements at the 22-acre park located at 150 Watkins Ave., such as a new walking path, creek restoration and an amphitheater, as outlined in the park's landscape master plan.
For the kids, there will be pony rides, a bounce house and balloon-sculpting clowns. For the adults, there will be a cash wine bar and live music from the Porkbellies and T2.
