Letter: Hard work behind Measure O to enhance parks

Editor:

Measure O — Parks for the Future — is good for our community. It is an investment in our quality of life.

Measure O did not appear overnight. It is the product of a multi-year community process, involving representatives from San Mateo County, every city, parks and recreation commission, special recreation district, and residents, to develop a program that benefits every neighborhood and community.

Moreover, this process began with citizens who took the idea to their elected officials and asked for their support. We had the chance to pass it in November 2006; while it received 55 percent of the vote, a two-thirds voter approval was required for it to pass; Measure O has the same requirement. I urge every San Mateo County voter to vote yes on Measure O for our parks.

Funding Parks with sales tax is a cop-out by County Supervisors who lack the political courage to make tough choices. Since the Supes won't fund Parks from the 1% property tax, they should let voters decide the issue.
NO new taxes. Vote NO on"O"!
