Marqs in Menlo closes

It's one door closes, another door opens for Mark Adams. Mr. Adams has closed Marqs in Menlo restaurant, which opened at 1143 Crane St. in downtown Menlo Park in February 2009. He's returned to Oak City Bar & Grill, where he was bartender for five years, bringing his dinner and music concept with him.

"Oak City is in the midst of a rebirth," he says on his website.

Working with Oak City's owners, Mr. Adams has lined up a program of music through June that features the After Darq Orchestra each Wednesday, open mike night with "The Bluesman" Keith Williams on piano on Thursday, Macy Black and "Louisiana Blues on Friday, and the Marty Williams Jazz Quartet on Saturday. All programs run from 8 to 11 p.m.

Every third Monday will be Big Band night, says Mr. Adams.

Oak City Bar & Grill has set aside a special music area with hardwood floors and a baby grand piano. There's even room for "a little light dancing," says Mr. Adams, who promises music lovers "music, mayhem, and martinis."

He says opening performances have played to a packed house. "You know, there isn't much live music around anymore."

He says he closed Marqs because the space was too small. "We were turning people away."

Oak City Bar & Grill serves lunch Monday through Friday and dinner nightly, with an emphasis on seasonal organic foods. It is located at 1029 El Camino Real, in Menlo Park.
