Claire Nolasco & Drama Queen win 'Best in Class'

Claire Nolasco, 10, a fifth-grader at Encinal School, won "Best in Class" at the San Mateo County Fair for her 15-pound turkey, Drama Queen, according to her mother, Cyndi Nolasco.

"Menlo Park kids are raising farm animals in local 4H clubs," says Cyndi. "Kids raise their animals at a local 4H farm, promoting quality animal care, sustainability practices, and good old fashioned hard work.

"Kids are responsible for the daily care, feeding and cleaning of their animal and the farm pens."

Julie Wong of Menlo Park is the project leader. Her daughter, Peri, raised the Reserve Grand Champion lamb.

Among other winners, Kathryn Stewart, 12, a student at Hillview Middle School, exhibited her rabbit, Super Bunny, and won fourth place in the novice division of rabbit showmanship. She also won the rabbit dress-up contest.

Menlo Park and Atherton 4Hers are members of the San Carlos Eaton Hills club.

"We have kids who attend Laurel, Encinal, Oak Knoll, Hillview, Summit, Sequoia, and M-A," Cyndi says.
