Sequoia high school district salutes teachers, staff

by Hannah Totte

As the 2010-2011 school year shifts into gear, the Sequoia Union High School District has announced its annual awards to top teachers, staff and parent volunteers.

Rachel Andres, a math teacher at Menlo-Atherton High School, was honored as Certificated Employee of the Year, in part due to her work as coordinator of a program that helps prepare students to achieve four-year college eligibility. Many of the students are the first in their families to go to college.

Given a Classified Employee of the Year award was Eddy Marroquin, a campus aide at Woodside High School who was recognized for his commitment to maintaining a safe campus environment and for his "work ethic, positive attitude and grace under pressure," the district said.

Tina Basler, a parent-volunteer at Woodside High, was named a Volunteer of the Year for her endeavors to enhance communication at the school.

Employees who reach milestone anniversaries in the 2010 school year were also recognized.

Applauded for 30 years of service were Janet Elliot, math teacher at Menlo-Atherton, and Charlotte Mansfield-Murphy, senior instructional associate at Woodside High.

Recognized for 20 years of service were Donna Allen, guidance information specialist at Woodside High; Richard De Francisco, English learner teacher at Woodside High; Lynn Emrick, business teacher at Woodside High; Mona Klein, consumer home economics teacher at Menlo-Atherton; Maricela Medina, school secretary at Woodside High; Sue Rhodehouse, academies teacher at Woodside High; and Susan Wilson, special education/resource teacher at Woodside High.
