Around Town: Holiday sale at Menlo Park Library

The annual holiday sale by the Menlo Park Friends of the Library will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 5, in the library's downstairs meeting room at 800 Alma St. in Menlo Park.

Along with holiday books, there will be a good selection in the children's, art and collectible categories, according to Tim Goode, spokesperson for Friends of the Library. There are also many tempting buys for the mystery reader, says Mr. Goode.

Rosewood tree lighting

The Rosewood Sand Hill hotel will welcome the beginning of the holiday season from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 1, when the hotel's 18-foot Christmas tree is illuminated.

The special event in the hotel's library will also include cookie decorating, complimentary hot cider and cookies, and carolers decked in Dickens' era costumes.

The public is invited to attend the free event. The hotel is at 2825 Sand Hill Road, near Interstate 280, in Menlo Park.

Menlo Park Chorus

The Menlo Park Chorus will hold its free winter concert, titled "Twisted Christmas," at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, in the Menlo Park Library at 800 Alma St.

Why the concert title? According to the flier, "The Menlo Park Chorus will perform seasonal songs that you know, but not like you've ever heard them sung before."

Free van service is available for Menlo Park seniors and people with disabilities. Call 330-2512 or e-mail rlroth@menlopark.org for more information.

Concerts at M-A

A holiday choir and guitar concert will be held at the performing arts center at Menlo-Atherton High School at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 2. The concert will feature holiday favorites and a variety of other selections, from classical to modern rock.

The annual "Name That Riff" contest and a raffle for a custom Gibson SG-style guitar will be held. A donation of $10 for adults and $5 for students is suggested.

On Wednesday, Dec. 8, the M-A concert and jazz bands will perform a free winter concert from 7 to 9 p.m. in the performing arts center at 555 Middlefield Road in Atherton.
