Woodside, M-A competing in 'High School Dance Off'

by Samantha Bergeson

Woodside High School and Menlo-Atherton High School are competing in what's being billed as the first annual "High School Dance Off and Concert" at 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 17, at the Fox Theatre in Redwood City.

The host is Tyler MacNiven, who, with his partner BJ Averell, won TV's "The Amazing Race" and $1 million in 2006. Tyler is the son of Jamis MacNiven, owner of Buck's of Woodside restaurant.

Each dance performance will be three to seven minutes long. Following the Dance Off, there will be a concert, starting at 9:30 p.m., by Woodside High School alums' Tempting Fate pop and metal band.

The judging panel includes Camille Oliver-Salmon, founder of Brisbane Dance Workshop, and Daniel Andrade, Cheryl Burke Studio instructor. Scores will be based on performance, originality, costume, and sportsmanship, said High School Dance Off spokeswoman Ginger Mozetti.

General admission is $15 if purchased in advance, or $18 at the door. Proceeds will benefit Companions for the Soul, a nonprofit organization that provides free animal-assistance therapy for senior facilities.

Fox Theatre is located on 2223 Broadway near Middlefield Road in downtown Redwood City.
