Training officer of the year

District Division Chief Frank Fraone of the Menlo Park Fire Protection District now has bragging rights as the state firefighter association's "Training Officer of the Year." He accepted the award in March, accompanied by colleagues from the district who had nominated him, citing his 32 years of experience and leadership in passing on the lessons learned on deployments during the Northridge earthquake, the Oklahoma City bombing, 9/11, Hurricane Katrina and other disasters. Of the 45 registered fire instructors in San Mateo County, 11 are from the district, which his colleagues attribute in part to Chief Fraone's mentoring.
