Before and after the indoor flights will be outdoor activities at the soccer field, where model planes designed for rougher outside airs will be flying. These planes, too, will be powered by batteries; planes that run on anything else are not welcome.
The outdoor activities start at 6 p.m. and adjourn to the Community Hall at 7:20 p.m. The outdoor activities resume at 8:40 p.m. and continue until 10 p.m.
Town Center is at 765 Portola Road.
The town's Nature & Science Committee has invited several experienced indoor pilots to demonstrate their planes in flight and assist visitors of all ages in trying their hands at flying them. The event is free and open to everyone, though children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
The press release for this event mentions "fireflies," apparently planes adapted for flying and being seen flying in the dark.
The Nature & Science Committee intends this event to be an educational eye-opener with respect to careers in high technology mixed in with the seeming magic of flight.
