Letter: Parking meters will cost more that they generate

Regarding the Almanac's article last week describing the vote by the Menlo Park City Council to buy six pay meters for parking plazas 1 and 5 at a cost of $55,364, plus additional city expenditures for signs and painting: the total cost will be about $60,000.

Have City Council members calculated, as I have, that it will take at least 40,000 hours of "overtime parking" at an average cost of $1.50 per hour to recover the $60,000? Most residents would surely consider this proposal to be financially unsound and untimely. What am I missing?
