Services in Portola Valley for Betty Bauer

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at Christ Church, 815 Portola Road in Portola Valley, for Irene Elizabeth "Betty" Bauer, who died Sept. 16. She was 102.

In the 1960s Ms. Bauer founded Betty Bauer's Country Pre-School in Los Trancos Woods. She operated the school for several years, exploring nature, crafts and art with the young children.

Born in Anaconda, Montana, Ms. Bauer grew up in Upper Michigan, attended Lawrence College in Appleton, Wisconsin, and graduated from Boston School of Occupational Therapy. She married Carl R. Bauer in 1940. In 1946, the family moved from Utah to Los Trancos Woods.

Mr. Bauer died in 1983. Ms. Bauer moved to The Sequoias in Portola Valley in 1989. She brought comfort to patients in The Sequoias Health Center with weekly visits and was a faithful member of Christ Church, say family members.

She is survived by her children, Barbara Shenkel of Billings, Montana, Webster R. Bauer of San Diego, and Nancy H. Conti of Jamestown, California; and two grandchildren.

Donations may be made to the National Radio Project, Oakland; Christ Church, Portola Valley; or a favorite charity.
