Original post made by RosenerHouse on Apr 19, 2007

As part of a speaker series during Older Americans Month, Peninsula Volunteers Rosener House Adult Day Center will host a talk by Susan Ayers Walker, Managing Director of the SmartSilvers Alliance, "Common Sense Guide to Aging-in-Place Using Low Cost Technology," on Wednesday, May 9th, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Learn how to remain independent in the comfort of your own home. Learn the changes you need to make to your living spaces and how to use low cost technology items around our house to help you stay safe, prevent falls, remember to take your pills and stay connected with friends and family.

The event, at 500 Arbor Road in Menlo Park, is open to all interested parties and is free of charge. No registration is necessary. Call 650-322-0126 for more information.

Ms. Walker has over 40 years experience in the computer industry. She has her BSEE from Northeastern and MSCS from Rutgers and currently sits on the Board of Director of the MIT Enterprise Forum. She is a member of the American Society on Aging and writes about computers and technology weekly for AARP.ORG.

On May 9th, Rosener House staff will also offer other resources for maintaining independent living and assistance to older adults and caregivers. A tour of the nationally recognized, state-of-the-art facility in Menlo Park also will be offered, along with respite for family members, refreshments for all and free parking.

The Rosener House program is suited to individuals with Alzheimer's disease and other dementia, post-stroke, Parkinson's disease, frailty, or social isolation. Peninsula Volunteers has provided services to older adults in San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties since 1947. Additional programs of Peninsula Volunteers are Little House, the Roslyn G. Morris Activity Center, Meals on Wheels, and through Peninsula Volunteers Properties, low-income senior housing at Crane Place and Partridge-Kennedy Apartments.
