I was shocked to hear of the death of Marilyn Franklin. I was one of her 5th graders in 1976. She was a generous teacher who knew her kids. There are teachers that stick with you for being really good or really bad. She was one of the good ones! Rest in Peace Marilyn.

Mrs. Franklin was my favorite teacher of all time. At Hillview, I had the privilege of being in her home room for two years in the 1960's. A story I still tell today is one of her essentially telling us in the 4th grade that we had to be more independent; she would emphasize, "I'm not going to be here for the rest of your lives!" Well, the following year she was our 5th grade home room teacher and I asked, "Hey, Mrs. Franklin, I thought you weren't going to be here for the rest of our lives?" Her response was typical of her respect for her students, she acknowledged the intended humor, but quickly returned to the business at hand. A favorite memory I hold dear is, along with my school chum Bruce singing these words to her, "She's five foot two, eyes of blue, has anybody seen my gal?" The words matched her to a tee. After all these years it has occurred to me she was not only a fabulous teacher, but a great friend as well. Au revoir Marilyn.
