I grew up in Menlo Park. I am a young (female) adult now. As I was driving to work this morning I saw a vote yes on prop 8 sign in the middle of El Camino. My heart dropped. How is that people can support such a heartless prop? As far as I'm concern there should be a prop against heterosexuals. The abuse, cheating that are more common in a heterosexual couple sometimes makes think I should be gay! I'm not saying what is wrong and what is right. But I do know if I am lucky enough to come across love in this life I DO NOT want any laws telling me how to be happy! Especially in my hometown that I HAD pride in. I can't say that I do. I am not assuming that all of Menlo Park is supporting this.
I have lost a family member because he believed that being gay would make him an outcast in this world. I'm glad I don't live in that world. I'm sorry he did. In my world happiness comes first then real issues- like the economy, gas prices, etc. Not what Bob and John are doing in their lives. Or even Sally and Bill. We are coming upon 2009. We don't live under a rock. I want my children to grow up in a town and a world of tolerance. Living in Menlo Park we see all sorts of people-race, social status. And to be so closed minded about something so NOT important to everyday life. Well it makes me sick. Think about this way if gay people were able to get married legally imagine how we can profit from that. Weddings aren't cheap!
If you want to worry about an issue worry about how they want to legalize hookers in San Francisco. You don't think that effects you? Wait until your children are hoping the train to go up to the city for a day trip to "hang" out with friends.
