What a sad thing it is to search for an old friend online just to find they have gone on without you! I remember Mr. Voyne as one of the sweetest souls I ever met. In the early 70's I dated his eldest son, Stephen, for a couple of years. His second son, Michael, was also a close friend at that time...
Dear Gladys, if you're reading this, I am so sorry to hear the news of Spencer's passing. I only spent time with him twice in my life, but to this day I remember his face and his kindness. I hope that your sons and your grandchildren bring comfort to your heart now. Although I only spent time with you once (the time Steve brought me home to meet you & Spencer), you still hold a very special place in my heart. You might be surprised to know that I think of you often and with great fondness.
My love and best wishes to everyone Spencer had to leave behind...
Like my old friend, Jeanne Oster, I, too, remember Spencer as one of the kindest and sweetest men I ever met. He was so dedicated to his two sons, Steven and Michael, and his beloved wife, Gladys. I can still see him driving that little VW Beetle down to USC to visit Steve at Mrs G's and the apartment on Hoover (where I lived with Steve at both places). A few special dinners at the Voynes' in Menlo Park (was it T-giving or Christmas?). Always made me feel like part of the family. And those chocolate chip cookies with the little M&M's! Hah! Hope Gladys is doing well out in Pleasanton and the boys are taking good care of her. One day I hope Steve may find it in his heart to reconnect with an old friend who never gave up on him.
Jeanne, if you're reading this, please know your prayers were miraculously answered a few years ago. I still remember sharing a few tunes of "you light up my life" in an apt in Redondo Beach. Was it really 36 years ago? Hope you have found the happiness in life that seemed so elusive yet always at your fingertips. Mystical almost.
Taking care of dad (97) in Redondo Beach (same old place) and wishing I was with my family in Petaluma - Charlie
