I think it is time for the city to get real on this - Crittendan tried to get a sweetheart deal from the city by letting the building rot, but couldn't pull it off. Now it's just a rotting hulk not worth saving. It's time to put the hammer down on old Crit - declare the property blighted and force him to knock it down on his own dime.
And one other thing: Across the street at the old car dealership, the two giant redwoods in front have been allowed to die off. In a city that's so anal about its trees, that's a heck of a double standard set there. Seems to me the city now has no leg to stand on in trying to tell private citizens what they can or can't do with their own trees when they those two huge majestic trees just die off like that.
Is it possible to tax commercial properties that stand vacant, under-developed, or otherwise not contributing to the tax revenues of the city?
runs in the extended family, Crittendens, Procters, all Atherton residents who have no scruples about exterior appearance of their extensive MP realty holdings. Just ask their tenants.
You can add Collins to that list.
the ultimate Atherton slumlords, they just bought another apartment building, don't expect them to clean up their act.
It's a shame the Menlo is a dilapidating hulk.
Growing-up in Menlo Park in the 60's the Menlo was artwork. How many of today's cookie cutter theaters have Loges?
I laugh at todays Menlo Park as it strives in vein to be, "Little Palo Alto."
Sorry, I mean the Park theater..
Sue Kayton in today's Almanac claims the appearance or the Park Theater is not a responsibility of the owner. What an outrageous statement. She supposedly has a degree from MIT; what is she thinking.
Most certainly it is the owner's responsibility. The city has a nuisance statue that could be and should be brought into play. The owner should be severely fined and he should be made to at least make its appearance acceptable.
City Council get on this --- get our statues enforced.
