July 4 Multi-Handed Ragtime Blast for U.S.O.

Original post made by Nan Bostick, Menlo Park: Felton Gables, on Jun 11, 2009

July 4, from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. the B's and D's of Ragtime (and you were still trying to figure out your P's and Q's?) return to Menlo Park's First Baptist Church for another All-American Ragtime benefit concert for the U.S.O. Last year the group raised $1,000 for the U.S.O. and created one of the zaniest ragtime concerts to ever hit that area. Come one and all. No reservations required. We will pass the hat and all donations will be gratefully accepted. Pastor Rick Line is head chef for the hamburger feast at 5:30 following the concert. $5 per person for the feast. The church is located at 1100 Middle Ave. (corner Arbor) in Menlo Park. A map can be found at: www.firstbaptist.com and info through Carol: 650-323-8544 or cjmaslin@juno.com.

And who are the B's and D's of Ragtime? The B's are: Menlo Park ragtime pianist/music historian Nan Bostick performing on one piano with Gilroy ragtime artists Chris and Jack Bradshaw playing four-handed on a second piano. The D's are Woodland's Robyn Drivon holding forth on tuba and San Francisco percussionist Pete Devine of Devine's Jug Band. He will be keeping the beat on drums, washboard, jug, and cheeks. Not to be missed!
