Two masked men armed with handguns invaded an occupied home in the 700 block of Ivy Drive in Menlo Park on Saturday, Sept. 6, at about 10:45 a.m. and got away with cash and property after forcing the occupants to lie on the floor, police reported.

The seven victims, five women, one man and a boy, ranged in age from 10 to 73, and no one was injured in the incident, said Menlo Park Police Department spokeswoman Nicole Acker.

The men entered the home through an unlocked door and demanded money and property, police said. They kicked open one locked inside door, rummaged through purses and a small safe, and fled on foot with $230 in cash, a cell phone and a man’s gold necklace, police said.

Victims described the men as black, about 5 feet 7 inches to 5 feet 8 inches tall, dressed in black and carrying handguns.

One of the victims managed to “sneak out” of the house and call police on her cell phone while the robbery was ongoing, Ms. Acker said.

Two officers responded immediately and a total of five were eventually on the scene to set up a perimeter.

  1. I trust that the Police will cath this burglars. We have to keep an eye on our neighborhood and be safe.If you see a strange person around ,call the police

  2. Hi Steve,

You are not serious when you say that mentioning that the armed burglers were “black” was not PC, right? It is a very important description of guilty parties, as is their height. It is not racial “profiling”.

Also, I hope that everyone noticed that the victims had left a door open. We may live in a “safe” neighborhood, but this isn’t the 1950s. Folks need to realize that people do come into our neighborhoods solely for the purpose of committing crimes. You may have great neighbors, but no neighborhood is “safe” in these days where everyone has a car and can go drive over to the target of the day. I agree with Raul. Also, ask your local police officer. They will verify this. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
