Menlo Park Art Commission
Original post made by Jim Lewis on Oct 10, 2011
I would respectfully like to request that you consider placing on the agenda before the end of the year the subject of whether or not this is an appropriate time to re-establish the Menlo Park Art Commission.
As you know, the Menlo Park Art Commission is formally referenced in the Municipal Code. It shares a prominent place on your website. It has years of making significant and important contributions to the community.
Art speaks to the heart. It can inspire, refresh, bring smiles, joy and entertainment. Perhaps during difficult economic times prompts even a greater justification to focus on what art does best.
Art comes in many forms. As responsible and responsive members of a Menlo Park Art Commission, attention can be paid to the many ways that art can in rich our lives.
Quite frankly, nearly every City and County within the State of California, and nearly every State within the United States, and at the Federal level, one can find a formal, organized and sanctified Art Commission. Our neighbors, such as Atherton and Redwood City to the north and Palo Alto and Mountain View to the south actively embrace the benefits and virtues of an Art Commission.
Now that Menlo Park has available the Menlo Atherton Center for Performing Arts adds yet another significant and powerful reason to provide thoughtful and careful consideration to its highest and best use.
Thank you for considering this request. If you have any questions, or need further documentation, feel free to chime in,. I have no doubt that many members of our wonderful community will be joyous to step forward in support of putting life back into our dormant and inactive Menlo Park Art Commission.
