Menlo council, planning commission gearing up for intense four weeks

Original post made on Apr 12, 2012

Menlo Park's City Council this week approved a brutal schedule of meetings for itself in the four-week period from May 22 to June 12 to discuss and take final action on a number of issues that could affect the city for decades to come, including Facebook, the downtown/El Camino Real specific plan, and the city budget for the next fiscal year.

The City has been incredibly conservative in processing the specific plan. The scope of the plan has changed drastically in response to individual concerns -- in my opinion the City is erring on the side of caution and taking more out of the plan than is necessary. However, the end result is still a very good compromise and puts the El Camino corridor in terrific position for positive and healthy growth in the near term. I encourage the City Council to see through what they've started, resist making any further substantive changes, and get it done on June 5!
