President raises funds at two Atherton events

Original post made on Apr 4, 2013

The president got into some trouble at the Goldman home when he referred to California Attorney General Kamala Harris as "by far the best-looking attorney general in the country." He later apologized to her, and she accepted the apology.

All credit goes to the Atherton hosts who moved mountains to put together these events.

^^^ All credit goes to the US taxpayer who footed the bill for Air Force One, Secret Service, etc. etc. so the President could take this trip for purely political purposes, raising $ from the .01% that he abhors.

How come he did not come to speak with us? Isn't he for the poor? Oh that's right, he needs to pay back the rich for supporting him.

Suckers

Caro and Barry:

If you are so offended by politicians raising campaign money, what are you going to do about it?

Moan, whine and gripe?

Or just whine because it's a dem and not a republican?

How about we each pay $6 a year and remove all outside money from elections? No more congressmen using a couple hours every day just to fundraise to keep their job, rather than doing their job? No more expensive trips, or selling of political souls to lobbyists and big industries or the mega wealthy like Sheldon Adelson or George Soros?

Or do you just like moaning about losing to Obama?

Your choice.

"We already pay for congressional campaigns, we just label it 'the NATIONAL DEBT.' Interests that donate to campaigns often get what they want from legislation, and we all pay for that; by comparison, public financing seems like a bargain." - Lee Hamilton, Former Congressman

But if you want to just whine about Obama, cool, I've got something for you: 332-206. Landslide, baby, and I ain't just talking MA grad Stevie Nicks' song.

5 million votes over Mr 47%, who got a mere 47% of the vote.

Whine on....

No, Fran, it's news. It's news anytime an important politician is in the area. It's news due to potential impacts on locals, businesses, traffic, security. It helps residents to know what's going on in their area, be it a major football game, a visiting VIP or a road closure. It helps to know how long the POTUS will be in the area, and where the affected area is. It's news whether or not you like him, agree with him or couldn't care less about it.

Must be something with the water in the Bay Area.

Marie --- try some deep breathing or other anger management techniques, but please don't write such language on this site. Its use is out of order and way out of proportion.

Romney, Meg Whitman, and a lot of Republicans have also raised $ in this area because there's a lot of money to be had here. Until we have a fair and rational system of campaign finance, this fundraising is a reality of our political system for both parties.

About 50 people showed up along the Alameda today to wave to the President, and most were probably standing in front of their homes. They were spaced all along the length of the street. Some were there to wave, and some to demonstrate...but hardly a throng of outsiders.

The helicopters are a sad fact of our violent society -- and the President of the United States deserves security, don't you think?

I am surprised profanity(ie, g-d) and BS are allowed to stay in the comment above, but a comment yesterday that was a reminder that men are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, not public opinion was pulled.

How can this private trip be justified? He has changed nothing. You can keep him. Barry- the quintessential UNDOCUMENTED.

Harold: marie must have had some of that aforementioned water.

Because there are far more Stanford games than Presidential visits, with planes circling the stadium, etc.. And the daily medical choppers!

Akbar:" Barry- the quintessential UNDOCUMENTED. "

What's it like out on the far, far, far, far fox fringe?

I am not a Democrat but it was still pretty cool to get to see him up close. As for the comment about rich vs poor -- there were at least 100 people who were working at the event in some capacity and many also had a chance to meet him. I was told that presidents often go out of their way to go thank the cooks, the servers, and the other people who are helping out behind the scenes. You can buy your way in, or you can work your way in, but these events are not exclusively for the rich. The president gets to meet a cross-section of the public, morons and birthers too!

Yesterday's news is not news anymore. Is it still on the webpage in an effort to provoke the local curmudgeons?

It's ALWAYS news to me to see so many local (insert derogatory t**** word for posters here) that don't believe Hawaii's birth certificate system, or newspaper announcements from a newspaper printed 50 years ago! (I know, they faked it 50 years ago!)

Amazing! Why hasn't the right disavowed birthers?

Oh, that's right, a third of them ARE birthers!
